Jimmy MacCarthy is an Irish singer-songwriter, born on 28 January 1953 in Macroom, Co. Cork, Ireland.

Best known as a songwriter Jimmy’s songs have been recorded by many successful Irish artists such as Tommy Fleming, Christy Moore, Mary Black, Frances Black, Maura O’Connell, Mary Coughlan, The Fureys, Paddy Reilly, Celtic Tenors, Finbar Wright, Michelle Lally and many more.

Some of Jimmy’s most successful compositions include ‘Ride On’, ‘No Frontiers’, ‘The Bright Blue Rose’, ‘As I Leave Behind Neidin’ and ‘The Contender’.

Jimmy’s first major band was Southpaw with Declan Sinnott in 1979 followed by a solo career starting in 1981 with the single ‘Miles of Eyes’. Ever since then Jimmy has written over a thousand songs and become one of Ireland’s most covered songwriters.

Jimmy has released four solo albums of his own – The Song of The Singing Horseman (1991), The Dreamer (1994), The Moment (2002) and Hey-Ho Believe (2010).
